Constable 250: “Walking the Landscape” including The Hay Wain

Venue - Christchurch Mansion

Cost - Friends £10 (includes tea/coffee and cake at 3pm, and a glass of wine/soft drink at 6.30pm)

Afternoon event 3pm-4.30pm

Evening event 6.30pm-8pm

We look forward to welcoming you to the previews of Walking the Landscape, the centrepiece of three major exhibitions at the Mansion in 2026 honouring Suffolk’s most famous artist. Perhaps his most famous picture will be on display – The Hay Wain will be visiting the county of its creator for the very first time.

We are delighted that our wonderful Art Curator Emma Roodhouse has generously offered to give previews at both 3pm and 6.30pm, giving more of our members an opportunity to hear how and why this painting has become so iconic. With the exhibition’s central theme of walking, and showcasing other loans from the Tate, V&A, Royal Academy and the National Galleries of Scotland (many of which are being seen in Suffolk for the first time), she will put this celebrated image in the context of Constable’s life and work.

In the afternoon tea, coffee and delicious cakes will be served in the Great Hall after our visit to the Wolsey Art Gallery. In the evening you can enjoy a glass of wine or a soft drink.

As with all our remaining events in 2026, these are for members only. Numbers are limited so early booking is recommended.

Booking is via the on-line booking link above or by contact@ foim.org.uk. See p27 of our Spring newsletter for payment details, and please add AFT or EVE for reference.
